Hey everyone,
I currently live in Huntsville, Alabama. Shortly after I moved here, I bought an iPhone 5s through Straight Talk, which included a SIM card that I have determined to be Verizon-based. Therefore, the phone uses Verizon towers. The salesperson at Straight Talk got it set up and activated without a hitch, and I have been enjoying my Straight Talk service for over a year now.
I recently visited the town of Falling Waters, WV, where I will be moving to in October. I noticed that between VA/WV state line and WV/MD state line, I have no service whatsoever. Texts do not work, and the phone is unable to make calls (calls go to a recording saying that the phone is roaming). Upon examination of Verizon's coverage map, I've confirmed that there is ZERO Verizon coverage in that area, therefore since the phone has a Verizon-based SIM, it will only run off Verizon towers.
Since I will be moving there in the next couple of months, I need to have a phone that will work in that area. AT&T and Sprint towers are everywhere in that area, and friends who live there and utilize AT&T & Spring towers all say their coverage is very good.
Would I be able to purchase an AT&T- or Sprint-based SIM card through Straight Talk and just swap the SIMs in my iPhone? Obviously I'd have to contact Straight Talk to activate and port the number over to the new SIM, but is this a viable option, or am I stuck having to buy a new phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
