Texting Problems on a Nokia 6790

A friend has given me a Nokia 6790 that I am going to transfer my number to if I like it and so far I don't. I have not been able to send one single text since I got it and he had the same issue. I came here only to find out that it is a well known issue that should have been fixed by now. As far as I can see this phone has had this issue since it came out. I would think that there should be something put in the box with the phone to let people know that it wont work unless we come here.
So that being said can it be fixed and if so how?

im having issues as well with my samsung sch android me and my fiance both have the same phones and ever since earlier today when we went for a ride and hit a spot where our phones were roaming we can send texts but can not recieve them. can anyone help ive allready done a update with the *22890. please help becoming very annoyed

I am having a problem with texting. I can receive messages fine and I can send pic messages. I can not send a regular text message. It goes directly to my outbox and continues to say it will resend at a later time.
