True and recent stories (other than mine) posted on walmart.com website :)

Limited Coverage on Verizon's Prepaid Network

I found out the hard way, after wasting time and money, that Straight Talk phones that use the Verizon network DO NOT get the same coverage that you get as a Verizon regular contract customer. To anyone who is looking into getting a phone that uses the Verizon network with Straight Talk, I would highly recommend going to the Verizon website and looking at their PREPAID map for coverage. It could save you a lot of time and frustration. I wish I had known this before I wasted time and money on Straight Talk.

Not truly unlimited...

I am disabled and use my phone a great deal as it is my only connection to the world most days. Six days after purchasing an 'unlimited' $45 card my phone was permanently shut off.. I was told by straight talk customer service it was because I called my family too much. Straight talk told me my only recourse is to purchase another phone and another $45 plan from them. Why would I do this if they are going to shut it off after six days? Anyone looking for a truly unlimited talking plan, this is NOT it. If you think it is and use it you will end up paying for 24 days of time you never get to use, just as I have

Worked for a few months, now nothing

This worked for a few months as long as I was in a big city. Now the phone has a hardware problem and thinks it is connected to a computer all the time. When it was working I tried using it in a rural area and, although the area was shown to have coverage on the map, I had to drive outside of town to get service. Now I have no way of getting my contacts or pictures off the phone itself and am trying to get an exchange but the WalMart store warranty has expired so I am trying to work with Straighttalk because Samsung will not cover it even though they manufactured it.

It makes sense. Verizon or any other carrier wouldn't accept that Straight Talk could offer the same service at nearly half the cost. They are going to throttle it as much as they can so they can keep the speeds up for their own customers paying a lot more.

Does ATT behave like this? Everything I read points to it being just like their postpaid contracts- I hope so. I left ATT for T-mobile, but want to give ST a shot. I have 2 phones, one of which does not do great on t-mo. Hopefully ST will be better. :)
