Signal/coverage

Signal/coverage

Postby gabbycrail » Mon Apr 16, 2012 3:19 pm

I live in a small town in Eastern North Carolina, (27909) and travel along the coast here often. I recently upgraded to an android phone and I lose service in some parts around here, which are not too far from home. I frequent these places, so my phone is definitely needed. I'm afraid I'll end up having to switch to a local provider just to keep signal when I travel. I like my new android, but what's the point if I can't use it? I recently saw the SIM options. I'd like to know what I can do with this, I'm oblivious to most technology but eager to try. Can I just get a used phone from another network, get the SIM card from ST and hope I get signal in those dead zones? HELP

Hi gabbycrail. My name is StraightTalk Stephanie and I will be addressing your question. If you have an AT&T, T-Mobile GSM phone or any unlocked domestic GSM phone, you can now activate it with the Straight Talk service by simply buying a SIM card from us (not available in retailers). In order to activate your service, you will need an Unlimited Airtime PIN or a credit card. If you have an active phone with Straight Talk, you can also request to transfer the phone number and service plan as long as the plan is Unlimited to your unlocked GSM phone upon activation. To view the program, please visit www.straighttalkSIM.com. Thanks!

Thanks! And is there a way that I could see ahead of time, what coverage I would have with that phone? What I am trying to do is, possibly get another phone that would get better signal in this area, I don't know who has the towers nearby. What networks would it be using, etc..?

Hi gabbycrail. It's AT&T or T-Mobile if your phone model ends with G (GSM), Verizon if it ends with C (CDMA). If you have the Android phone, it's on Sprint. To see current offers, please visit: http://bit.ly/jGs959 and enter your Zip Code. Thank you!

Thanks for your help. I'll be doing a bit of research and hopefully be able to keep my service with ST.

When choosing an unlocked phone, do I go by their coverage map to see if it will be covered in my area? Or am I still going by ST coverage maps?

It seems there are a lot of people having this problem. I live in Indiana and bought an android phone (after entering zip code and ST said it was for my area). I ended up returning it. It stinks cause Android is really a great OS. If they ran off the ATT network I would be fine. Anyone know if this is an option?

Hi BrianMF. My name is Straight Talk Stepahanie. The android phones run off with Sprint Prepaid Network. If you want to be activated with AT&T service, you may check our BYOP program. To view program, please visit www.straighttalkSIM.com. Thanks!

If you get a an AT&T phone that is an Android and use your sim card will it still be on the Sprint network or will it run on the At&T towers?
