My wife currently has an iphone5 on ST via CDMA (no SIM). I assume that means she is on Verizon's network. I want to get her an iphone6 and would like to keep her on Verizon rather than AT&T because AT&Ts coverage is poor at our house (I have a ST phone with a SIM so it uses AT&T and my coverage is weak).

Should I order the T-Mobile (unlocked) version from Apple, and do I need to order a nano-SIM for it from ST? When I activate, how do I make sure it is activated on Verizon's network rather than AT&T? Is it as simple as NOT putting in a SIM?
