Poor phone signal and data speed

Same problem here. I have an unlocked HTC G2. With the ST SIM, I can only get 2G speeds. If I put the same SIM in an unlocked AT&T phone, it works fine. I've double checked the APN and it is setup correctly. Any suggestions appreciated.

I have poor reception also.

I bought the AT&T Sim card an installed it into my iPhone 3G. But the service is terrible, 1-2 bars always, dropped calls happen all the time. My friend who has the same AT&T network towers but isn't on Straight Talk get fine service, full bars. Why is this happening? I need help!!! I need to have reliable service!!!
