Service In Mexico?

I have always had AT&T every-time i go to Mexico my phone automatically gets picked up by a carrier there . This allows me to still access the internet, text, make and receive calls, of course with higher roaming charges. I Am going to be leaving to Mexico for around 15 days , and I am debating whether to refill my service when it is due because I will be in Mexico for half of the time it is valid. The only way I will refill it is if i will be able to at the very least access the internet on my phone. SO my question thus is, will my phone pick up another carrier, as it always has done when i had ATT?
