Mexico visit

Postby smitty » Sat Jul 14, 2012 2:53 am

I am going to Mexico on vacation for a month. Can I activate my straight talk phone and get my messages in Mexico? What are the associated costs to make or recieve calls? I will be in the Cancun, Cozumel, and Chetumal service areas in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

A direct reply to my email address will be appreciated. thanks, smitty (and juanita)

Good day, smitty. My name is Jessica_ST and I'll be addressing your concern. You will not be able to make or receive calls on your Straight Talk phone when you are located outside of the contiguous United States. Any such usage is considered unauthorized usage by Straight Talk Wireless and your service is subject to immediate suspension. In the event of suspension for this or any other unauthorized usage, you will not be entitled to receive any refunds for your phone or any unused airtime. Thank you.

OK, so that is a bit of a drawback for us.

Can you explain, how we would go about getting our messages(on the straight talk phone), remotely, from a different phone and number, that does work in Mexico, calling to the straight talk phone.....?

You suprised me a bit, so now this is a bit urgent to resolve before I leave.

thanks

Hi smitty. If you have voicemail set up on your phone then the caller might be able to leave a voice message to your phone and you can retrieve them from a different phone depending on the provider. You will just have to dial your Straight Talk phone number from a different, interrupt the voicemail gretting by pressing the star (*) or pound (#) sign, enter your voicemail password and your voice messages will start to play. We hope this helps. Thank you.

thank you, I think I got it covered. I was impatient, and called ST customer service, and figured out I can use my att phone, call her phone, when it goes to message, I press *, then I enter the voicemail account(her number again) with # sign, then her voicemail password with # sign, and get the messages. I think this will work OK for us.

I found the voicemail password(which I had forgotten, of course) by using her phone, going thru the settings on her voicemail, and turning on and off the requirement to enter the password.

It was rather difficult for me to find out there were no options to activate the phone in Mexico. This is something that should be easier to find out on the website. Good luck and I do appreciate your reply.
