Service outside of home zip code

Service outside of home zip code

Postby debw » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:13 pm

I have read a few posts on this forum as well as when researching phones on the Wal-Mart website that state they have had problems using their phone outside of their home zip code. I understand that there can be areas where there is no service but if I am going just from home to work which is in a different zip code, am I going to have problems having service? Having a working cell phone whether I am going to work or taking a day trip is very important so I want to make sure I am going to have coverage before making a switch from Verizon Nationwide Service.

In other words, does a ST phone only work in your home zip code area or are you able to have nationwide coverage (for the most part according to the coverage map) away from your local zip code you activated the phone in? If it helps, my home zip is 62401, work zip is 61938 and go to visit family in 62448. What type of phone, CDMA or GSM, is going to get me coverage in all 3 of these areas? Thanks

Examples that I found that pertain to this problem include:

Off the Walmart website:
I just bought this to save money and it works. Now I went to visit family 4 1/2 hrs away and even with signal bars the phone is not working.
Q:
The area I am in carries the same phone and the coverage map shows that it should work here. I called customer service and he told me I would have to change my zip code and get a new number. Really? Anyone have a suggestion? I have had trac phones before and have had no problem like this before in the same area...

A:
I got a new phone. I had the same problem in neighboring zipcode "zones" I also got "Check call restriction - 34" I called straight talk and received no practical help in the manner.

Please advise. Thanks

Did you ever get any sort of "offline" response to this?

This would be a good thing to know, as many people do not work, live, and attend school within the same ZIP code.

I am going through this exact same thing. I dont need to access the net from home. This is absurd. I received the same answer from straight talk customer and am considering dropping them all together. What good is a phone that never works or barely works. I cant get a signal or texts at the beach or at work. At home the I only have two to three bars and the phone never rings...but I get voice mails...in an word...it suck...sorry I paid so much money for this phone.
