We have been using Straight Talk for almost a year and have had no complaints. We hooked it up to a 12 year-old V-Tech base with 2 extensions, and the answering machine on the V-tech worked fine. But the V-tech batteries were wearing out and the handsets were pretty tired. So we ordered a Panasonic base with 4 extensions, KX-TGE242. I have set up the new system, and everything works except the answering machine on the base. I THINK it is because the new set is more sophisticated and knows that the Straight Talk device is equipped with voice mail; we have never used the voice mail and never tried to set it up. Now I think I am going to be forced to make changes on the Straight Talk device so that my new Panasonic answering machine will work. I have checked and re-checked the local Panasonic settings; I have even hooked up the old V-tech to the other port on the Straight Talk device, and it answers! Has anybody had a similar issue? I am relatively computer and telephone savvy. I love Straight Talk; I am an AT&T management retiree, and I was thrilled to dump their lousy landline and cell service: they are arrogant, over-priced and oblivious to the real world. I just wanna make my new phones work.
