Cannot use phone, get a message from Verizion wireless

I cannot currently use my phone to make or receive calls, text, or anything else. This is my only phone and I need to get the issue resolved quickly. I tried calling customer service using a friends phone, however the person could not hear me clearly and I didn't want to use all my friends time up trying to get someone to understand what I was trying to say. Tried emailing customer service and got an automated reply stating it could take up to 12 hours to get any actual information. Need to find a way to get a quicker response.
