SIM cards for compatible phones?

Postby astro599 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 11:55 pm

I noticed that straighttalk is now selling sim cards for "compatible at&t and t mobile phones." I was just wondering which phones are compatible. HTCs? Other android phones? Thanks!

Hi astro599. My name is Straight Talk Debbie and I will be addressing your question. Yes, it is compatible as long as the phone is unlocked and it's a GSM phone. I believe this answers your question. It’s been a pleasure helping you. Have a good day.

Hi jdegroat. You will need to contact your provider to unlock the phone. Thanks!

Just wanted to confirm that I would -not- have to jailbreak an AT&T iPhone 3GS in order to use one of your SIMs. I do see that "picture messaging" won't work without a jailbreak but would eMail with a picture attachment?

Thanks.

I'll answer my own question as others may find this info useful:

You do NOT have to jailbreak or otherwise "unlock" an AT&T iPhone 3GS to use a StraightTalk SIM. However, you DO have to upload the proper APN info into the phone as this cannot be changed right from the phone (although others have provided a website where, allegedly, this may be done using the iPhone in WiFi mode). I found the iPhone Configurator Utility here:
http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/
...scroll down the page and you'll find both the Mac and Windows versions of the app. Run it, create a new APN with the proper info, and upload it to the phone. As soon as I popped in the ST SIM and followed the directions in the activation card, my iPhone was up and running; no delay at all.

DO NOTE: Unless you jailbreak the iPhone, you will not have MMS service (although SMS works great). No big deal as any photo I take may be attached to an eMail and sent.

Looks like your service will be as good as what you'll get on AT&T's network because ST -uses- AT&T's network for the iPhone. I'm playing with this for the next three weeks and, if it works as well as it has been working for the last few days, I'll order another SIM and port my old Verizon number over to StraightTalk.

This all was a pleasant surprise.

I have been trying to purchase a ST sim card online and keep getting an error over and over. I contacted ST customer service and they said someone would be getting back with me in 24-48 hours...still nothing. Has anyone else has trouble purchasing a sim card online?
