MMS and camera on messages not working

I can send a picture message to a person with iMessage but not on a regular message. The camera is faded out. I didn't have this issue with any other iPhone I've had using Straight Talk and my sons and husband don't have it on their iPhones all using Straight Talk. I read that there are new SIM cards. Could that be the issue? Please help!
