Bad reception on Samsung RC355c

Why do I get such poor reception indoors on my new RC355c? It's almost useless indoors if I'm not by a window. I think I'm missing cals due to this. I have a old samsung with trac phone, and that always gets full reception, but my new phone I'm lucky to get 1 bar most times no bars. I walk outside and I'll get full bars. Is there anything I can do, or is this phone junk?
