No text messages

I just bought the Samsung touch screen phone. I was having an issue with the dreaded error 67 code. That issue has been addressed, but I cannot send or receive any text messages. Has anyone else had this issue and have you successfuly resovled this problem? I have been on the phone with tech support collectively for 4 hours over the last 3 days. I like straight talk, I really do. However, every single time I upgrade my phone, I have some type of issue.
