Cannot make calls but can use data

I just bought my first plan with Straight Talk an hour ago. I bought my phone last month without a plan and decided it was time to activate. My internet works fine however I get the service message "Welcome to Verizon Wireless..." regarding me to hold while they put me through to an external representative. I waited a while and didn't get anybody but I didn't wait long. Just wondering what I should do now.
