I’ve been a straight talk customer for about 5 years now. My first phone, a galaxy S2, I bought from Sprint, paid $500 & had it changed to straight talk. I bricked it after I tried to update the android operating system (straight talk customer service misled me to believe at that time that it was indeed easily possible). I now have a Samsung galaxy S5 via straight talk which still runs on android 4.4.2 in which I paid $600 for a couple years ago. My question is....with straight talk, are you still not able to update the android software version on your phone? What about with a google phone using straight talk? (Maybe straight talk doesn’t even offer google phones that send their own android updates?). Now that my phone is so far under the current android operating system, (which makes it very vulnerable to security threats and limits you greatly to apps and functionality) I am beginning to research into a new carrier in about a year when 5g becomes reality. All I know is that if indeed straight talk still isn’t able to update the android operating system, I will definitely be choosing a new carrier. This is ridiculous, to pay $500 & $600 for phones and $50 a month for service, that aren’t even able to keep a current operating system. Does anyone know if any other prepaid (non contract) carriers provide android operating system updates? Like Metro T-mobile?
