Samsung t404G keypad multiple characters

Hi, I bought this phone 2 months ago and have noticed that
I get multiple characters entered while texting. once when a key is pressed and then again when released
Tonight, it reset its self. I called straight talk and customer service said they would mail me a new phone and when I get it, to return the defective one. is this the proper proceedure? And what do you all think what the problem is/ Thanks, Steve

I called Straight customer (service) the man I talked to told me they would send me a replacement and when I receive it, to send the defective one back in the supplied package. So what I get is a box with a Fed Ex envelope !! So, I am supposed to be without a phone while this one is fixed? Today, this thing dialed the county emergency service all on it's own. I bought this thing two months ago. Straight Talk should make this situation right, or refund the price I paid. I also have of yet to receive any email from here either.
