Voice Mail notification on Maxx HD

I have a formerly Verizon BYOP Moto Razr Maxx HD. I have two issues relating to Voice Mail
1) When I get a new voice mail, I get a ring tone like notification that continues until I swipe the screen. I want to change the notification tone and duration.
2) As I was attempting to find the solution to "1)" I tried tapping the Voice Mail icon on my desktop. After a long wait for "Please Wait . . . Signing In", I get "Could not connect to Voicemail Server. Please try again later." This happens every time.

How do I get to the settings to modify my voicemail notification?
