Hi strttalk. Here is the honest answer. The Bring Your Own Phone program supports phones that are compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile. Unfortunately, the Verizon Motorola Moto G handset can only be used with the Verizon Prepaid service, for at least the first 6 months of it's service life. It is not an unlocked device. If you were to visit http://www.straighttalkbyop.com and enter the MEID of a new Verizon Motorola Moto G, you would be informed that particular device is not compatible with Straight Talk service. Because Straight Talk is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) of Verizon services, it must abide by licensing requirements set forth by Verizon Wireless. The Verizon Motorola Moto G is not compatible with any MVNO provider. And is locked to Verizon only.

According to this post, ST must abide by licensing requirements set forth by Verizon Wireless.

I found the MEID of a nearly new Verizon Moto G on craigslist and entered it into the straighttalkbyop.com site, but the message that I got back was: "We do not offer coverage in the Zip Code you provided."

Here is my question: If I buy a verizon Moto G that is less than 6 months old and unlock it, will it then work with ST service?

OK, FYI all: this is the transcript of my chat session on this issue...

summary: Verizon Moto G will not work in Nashville TN. don't know about other areas......!

start chat session:

Issue type:
Bring Your Own Phone- CDMA
Please wait while your chat is routed to the next available agent.
Rey: Good day! My name is Luis. How can I help you today?
Cal: I really like the Moto G from Verizon. Is there any way to make it work on ST? Does it matter if it is more than 6 months old?
Rey: As long as the device is compatible you will be able to use it with our service.

Rey: Let me check the phone's compatibility for you, please provide me with the MEID number of the phone.
Cal: when I put in the MEID A000002CE979F0 and my zip code 37211. I get: "We do not offer coverage in the Zip Code you provided."
Rey: In that case, the device is not compatible with our service.

Cal: what if I unlock it?
Rey: In this case, it wouldn't make a difference due to the phone's technology.

Cal: If I find a VeriZon Moto G that it more than 6 months old, then will it work?
Rey: Actually, the timeframe in which the phone was used with the original carrier does not make a difference on its compatibility either.

Cal: so no one can use a verizon moto g at any time on ST?
Rey: Not on this specific ZIP code.

Rey: You can always check any device's compatibility by accessing the following link.
Rey: http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/ ... gistration
Cal: ok, I will try to find another verizon tower phone that is almost as good.....
Rey: I appreciate your patience.
Rey: Have a great day.
Cal: thanks...
Rey: If you have any further questions or comments, please contact one of our customer care representatives at 1-855-222-2355.
