sms center number

my phone will not let me send text messages but it will let me call and send picture messages. I have called customer service and at first they did not understand what I was talking about so they made me reset my phone and a bunch of other stuff before they finally gave me an SMS center number but they only gave me one SMSC number if I go into my phone info from the dial pad using *#*#4636#*#* it shows blank and the SMSC area. the number that they gave me work for a couple of hours but then it disappeared and now its back to the way it was. I tried calling customer service back but they still did not understand what I was talking about so there going to send me a new SIM card but I would still like to know why my phone is messing up
