Trying to switch to a different phone

I recently obtained a previously used straight talk phone. I placed my straight talk sim card into the new phone and it prompted me to set up/verify Google account information. It will allow me go through the steps of verifying my google information but then I receive a message telling me I must use a google account that has previously been synced to the phone. It will not let me beyond this message.
