3 weeks ago today I purchased Straight Talks new ZTE Rapido LTE Model Z932L. The phone uses Verizon's LTE network and performs admirably. But as I reported in a previous post there is a persistent issue with the phones software update option. Since that post I have found the ST tutorial for this phone online and within it the "Firmware Update Tutorial". Please note that this is Straight Talks own tutorial. I did a screen capture of this tutorial and attached it here :

Please note step 5 of this tutorial :
5. Tap "Check For Updates." Your phone will install the update, if available, or display a message indicating that an update will be checked for automatically or that the latest updates have already been installed.
This is NOT what happens when I perform this step. Instead, my phone displays the following message : "Update service is currently unavailable, please try again later." This has happened every time I have tried this for 3 weeks now. The 4G LTE icon in the status bar shows that a solid 2 way connection is being made every time and then the message comes up, which seems to me to indicate that my phone is telling the truth : my phone is attempting to connect to the update service but cannot because that service is, for whatever reason, unavailable. And the problem is certainly not with my phone because I can browse the web and access any of my apps without issue. I will be the first to admit that I am far from being an expert in Android smartphones and that is why I am posting this, in the the hope that someone can offer some insight. Does a firmware update for this phone, if one is available, come from Straight Talk or from the maker of the phone, ZTE? Because it seems obvious to me that the update service for this phone is either not up and running or is being intentionally blocked, perhaps by ZTE. If it is the later, then the Straight Talk tutorial is misleading and should be amended. Because that tutorial clearly indicates that I should be able to easily determine if a firmware update is available and I cannot do that if the update service itself is persistently "unavailable."
