Dropped Calls/WiFi Calling

I'm a long-time ST Customer and a happy one! I moved into a new house in August 2017 and have nothing but dropped calls even with five bars on my iPhone 5. I should say my house is nearly right under some high voltage lines (the centerline of the utility poles is 11ft from my front wall. My house is in a semi-industrial part of town and I'm barely 1/4 mi from the Police Station as the crow flies. (I'm thinking interference from police radio transmissions too)

So my question is should I upgrade to an iPhone7 to have wifi calling...or do I get a VoIP phone and set up call forwarding? I've had it w/ getting in the car and driving a 1/2 mile downtown to call back!

I have a cheap Amazon tablet with Alexa.
I havent tried making calls with it, but Ill give it a shot and report back
