samsung r355c to a smart phone

Great phone but would like to upgrade to a smart phone. Are there new smart phones coming out soon, I would love a droid but no sprint service in my area, as I live in the country. As far as what you have now what is the best. The e71 looks great but I dont know about the screen size for my 45 year old eyes. thanks for any help
